Eating Green

Buy Locally

We have all heard by now that buying locally can help save the environment. But did you know it is estimated that more than 50% of merchandise cost is derived from the transportation of that product?

Clearly there has to be a better way.

Typically, when thinking about buying locally we consider produce and other foods. But there are numerous products that can be purchased locally. The choice of buying locally can really add up.

Don't Buy Bottled Water

Did you know Americans spend from $1 to $4 per gallon by purchasing water in the bottle?

Unfortunately, the price is not the worst part. Those high prices are due in large part to the packaging of that water. In fact, the plastic bottle, lid and the label make up 90% of that per gallon price.

In comparison, we can get the same pure water at home for much less. In fact, it is estimated that even considering the cost of water filtration we can get the same quality water (or better) by using refillable bottles at a cost of .10 per gallon.
